One idea per scene: how to edit an AI storyboard

An outline for editing an AI storyboard: one idea per scene, on-screen text that works with the sound off, and when to cut, merge or reorder scenes.

Draft: owner to write. This post is an outline. The headings and bullets show what it will cover; the full text comes before launch.

Why one idea per scene

  • A viewer reads one short line per scene. Two ideas compete for the same few seconds.
  • Give each scene one job: hook, show, explain or ask.

Read the storyboard with the sound off

  • The on-screen text should carry the message on its own.
  • Keep each line to about six words.
  • Highlight one word per line at most.

Cut, merge or reorder

  • Cut scenes that repeat the hook.
  • Merge two scenes that show the same screen.
  • Move the clearest proof point right after the hook.

Match the scene type to the idea

  • One UI detail: a feature callout that zooms into a crop with a label.
  • A flow: a cursor demo or a browser scroll.
  • A list of benefits: one checklist scene, not three separate scenes.
  • Numbers: only ones your site already backs up. The storyboard won't add claims your site doesn't make.

Edit lines, not only scenes

  • Regenerate one line instead of the whole script.
  • Try the shorter, punchier or more technical rewrite, then read it aloud against the scene length.

Check before you export

  • The product name and the call to action are on screen.
  • The hook lands in the first two seconds.
  • Key text sits inside the safe zones of every format.

To add before publishing

  • A worked example: one sample storyboard before and after edits.
